Happy Lunar New Year Skiing & Mountaineering with NDA!

Explore Skiing & Mountaineering project designed by NDA Group!

As firework displays burst in the sky and the neighbourhood kids squeal with excitement at the loud tat-tat-tat of firecrackers, we feel the Lunar New Year beckoning!

This Lunar New Year, NDA Group would like to wish everyone a healthy, happy, and prosperous year of the Rabbit!

With the Lunar New Year holiday just beginning, aren’t you excited to explore? Perhaps you’re thinking of hitting up the slopes inspired by last year’s wonderful Beijing Winter Olympics? Lucky then, that NDA Group has been busy creating ski & mountaineering resorts for the experience of a lifetime.

We’ve already designed incredible ski destinations in Hebei’s Chongli and Jilin’s Songhua Lake, and now we’re proud to present our activity planning and architecture work in the spectacular natural beauty of China’s Northwest Region: Hemu International Ski Resort, and Keketuohai International Ski Resort!

Remote and far removed from the familiar scenes of bustling Chinese cities, Hemu has long been shrouded in a veil of mystery. Hemu sits in the Kanas Lake Scenic Area, and its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage has received China’s highest tourist rating. Juxtaposing in with this natural beauty we design contemporary architecture that is deeply inspired by the gravel stone local to this area.

Hemu Ski Resort is the pinnacle of skiing and mountaineering, such that all nature lovers will find unforgettable memories here, no matter the season. So, we separate it into three distinct zones: the Mountain Belt, Resort Belt, and Village, where visitors participate in exhilarating sports, revel in activities, and immerse themselves into the culture respectively.

It’s at the Mountain Belt that the skiing fun happens, with incredible slopes and awesome views offering visitors a true taste of the Altai adventure experience.

Hemu Ski Resort is a winter sport lovers dream, with over 100km of ski slope, forming over 100 separate slopes for skiers of all abilities. The highest summit peaks at 2848m high, and the largest descent is a breathtaking 1466m.

All along the way we create space that amplify the alpine experience, like the hilltop station built for panoramic views, the ski centre filled with trained professionals, and the hotel at the foothills offering locally inspired shelter and sustenance.

In the Resort Belt you’ll find sports, culture, and wellness zones to explore, all bound together by Jikepulin Festival Park which is purpose-driven to share and preserve the local Tuva culture through enrapturing traditional performances, lights shows, and ice sculpture festivals.

With Hemu Ski Resort we seek to go beyond entertainment - instead we strategically realise a world of natural wonder for visitors to immerse in, whilst giving a platform for local Tuva people to help them develop.

In embracing change, Hemu shows us a new world, whilst the world anticipates a new Hemu.

Keketuohai International Ski Resort

Keketuohai International Ski Resort, also in China’s Northwest, enjoys an unusually long snow season that attracts dedicated skiers from across the globe.

The geomorphologic landscape is so special it has been designated a UNESCO Global Geopark, and the gemstones and minerals found here serve as the inspiration for our architectural design language.

So, it is our privilege to be working here to rejuvenate the existing resort, which we do by upgrading the ski and vacation experiences. This means thoroughly understanding the evolving demands of skiers, but also of all-season travelers too.

Famous in China for its awestriking natural setting, we realise its potential to become a world-class ski and mountaineering resort, working off the already existing foundations of its 61km of skiable powder across 23 slopes, and weaving in this town’s mining heritage into physical architecture.

Skiers will love what we’re doing to improve their experience as we expand the resort size, increase the number of slopes, and add cable cars and ski stations to further accessibility.

We also plan apartments that literally stand on the peaks themselves, yet even in this wild immersion, guests are still able to enjoy catering and ski-in and ski-out facilities.

In upgrading the vacation experience then, we connect the physical and abstract, holistically understanding the planning and execution to optimise the ski experience whilst also immersing visitors in rich Keketuohai narrative.

And so here we come to the end of the last article of the Year of the Tiger! As you’re reading this we’re already on our way to hit the slopes of Hemu and Keketuohai, and we hope you’re on your way to enjoy some winter sport fun too.

We wish you a fantastic Lunar New Year holiday and look forward to skiing and mountaineering  with you in the Year of the Rabbit!
