Beyond Marina Design:Planning Long Term Value

Value at every stage of a project’s lifetime

At NDA Group we see the value of a project lasting across its entire lifetime. It is this holistic methodology that means we always design our projects to stand the test of time and bring value for owners and users decades after completion.

Consider the lifetime and purpose of a building or master planning– it is expected to last years, perhaps even centuries, and fit for the purposes of housing, facilitating, and driving revenue.

It is in this context then that architectural design is only one piece of the larger puzzle that we work to solve. Our inhouse expertise crosses the fields of planning and architectural design, but also marketing, hospitality and financial analysis, thus we excel across the whole value chain, including market feasibility, impact studies, and operational consultancy.

It is this comprehensive vision that has made NDA Group one of Asia’s leading architectural and planning firms, with the design of over 50% of China’s full service integrated marinas.

Alongside other specialists, including master planners, landscape architects, and environmentalists, we designed Sanya Agile Clearwater Bay to be Asia’s largest marina, with 780 berths in the main basin and canals, with the integration of various exhibition spaces, entertainment venues, hotels, and restaurants combined into one roaring commercial complex.

We were tasked with planning the entire waterfront and marina, and we chose this location for its natural stream that pours right out into the ocean. This rare natural resource is both beautiful and functional, serving to form the inner lagoon and boating channels, as well as maximising water views from anywhere on the complex.

To create an authentic waterfront experience, we worked with the housing development planner to create a boardwalk that is reminiscent of classic American resorts.

This is the foundation of the waterfront lifestyle and supports our activities in yachting and water sports.

Our activity planning for Clearwater Bay has been so successful that it has encouraged major IPs to host their events here. This includes Ocean Leisure Life Expo in 2019, the Hainan Strawberry Music Festival in 2020, and the Social Media Celebrity Tourism Culture Festival in 2022.

That, alongside the extraordinary beauty has quickly turned Clearwater Bay into a hotspot destination – a glance through social media shows thousands of posts from holidaymakers and influencers alike, thus organically perpetuating brand awareness and ensuring a steady flow of tourist and MICE revenues.

Shimei Bay is pure tranquility in stark contrast to the heady commercialism of Clearwater Bay. Here our concept design and marina planning puts nature first, and our work on market positioning, activities planning, and yacht club functionality attracts high end ocean lovers who demand a pure experience.

With arguably one of China’s best surfing beaches, we curated a series of water sports activities for Shimei Bay guests, and accessible to the surrounding luxury hotels, to create an unadultered experience.

Indeed, Shimei Bay is so well noted for its sailing experience that it was the 2020 host for the Hobie 16 Sailing Tour Island event. It and Clearwater Bay were also both transit bays for the 2019 Round Regatta.

Fuzhou’s WAF nominated Citychamp Dartong Plaza has recently activated their marina, an integral part of integrated complex that combines corporate headquarters, hotel, yacht club, and marina into one destination project.

Citychamp Dartong Plaza is built on the banks of the Minjiang River and completes the larger pre-existing Fuzhou Straits International Exhibition Centre complex, which sits behind it. With this rare infrastructural support from the exhibition centre, Citychamp Dartong Plaza is able to host water based exhibitions such as yacht shows.

Simultaneously, NDA Group advised that the yacht club integrate with the hotel facilities and marina to target B2C clientele and provide them with a unique offering in the city. Thus, each part of the plaza serves to support and reinforce each other, and helps accelerate waterfront lifestyle for both B2B and B2C sectors.
